In Thailand it is impossible to name the Buddhism religion in that sense as we have got used to understand it.
In Theravade there is no concept of god, there is no concept of belief as in Christianity, therefore it is possible to consider as its religion only conditionally.
Buddha Gautama was the Teacher, the person, instead of god who has given to people of knowledge how to get rid of sufferings, to clear up, learn an essence of things and to find true pleasure in a nirvana.
