Jordan, an Arab country on the east bank of the Jordan River, is characterized by old landmarks, nature stores and shoreline resorts. It's home to the famous archeological site of Petra, the Nabatean capital dating to around 300 B.C. Set in a tight valley with tombs, sanctuaries and landmarks cut into the encompassing pink sandstone bluffs, Petra acquires its moniker, the "Rose City."
