Default Europe. Cheapest Cell phone option?

I am travelling through europe for 3 weeks, if I wanted to bring along my unlocked blackberry, what's the best way to keep costs down? Buy a pay as you go sim card? use my own fido sim card? buy a pay as you go PHONE from them? Get a phone card? I want to make calls home (once a day), as well as local calls if needed. I'll be landing in london, travelling through france, italy, greece.. Thanks.!

There is no denying that smartphones and data plans come in super handy when you’re traveling — especially for things like Google Maps and getting restaurant recommendations on the go. Unfortunately, using your iPhone, Android, or other smartphones in Europe can be a little confusing, and expensive if you’re not careful.
