How to see/tour/shop in New York with an infant?

We are traveling to New York (Times Square area) with our child (1 year old). How do you travel around (esp. in a cab) with an infant? Are there special cabs with car seats or are we required to lug our own all over NY for the few times we'll need to get into a cab? Something tells me this is the only way, but there's got to be an easier way! Please advise, thanks.

No, there’s no special taxi for infants in NYC. Moreover, I have never seen a car seat or any type of child seating in any public transport, anywhere. Take a stroller and do what you can with it like other moms do.
