Thailand celebrates New Year three times.

The first time a holiday falls on December 31, as in other countries. This is European New Year. It is celebrated, usually in major tourist cities, where the foreigners gather.

The date of the second new year is not constant and changes as the date of Easter, it falls between the twentieth of January and the twentieth of February.

Numerous ceremonies and traditional attributes - red lanterns, lions and dragons - accompany this holiday. And all because many Chinese live long in Thailand, so the tradition of these two peoples is closely intertwined.

At night of Chinese New Year, loud explosions of firecrackers are heard. In this way, people of this country scare away evil spirits.

And the next three days after the holiday, relatives and friends visit each other, giving presents.

And the third New Year - traditional Thai New Year - is celebrated with a truly enormous scale. The celebration is accompanied by certain rituals, which are strictly observed from year to year.

Thailand celebrates its own New Year in April, from 13 to 19-th, and it is called "Songkran", which means the Earth's rotation around the sun.

Songkran is considered an official holiday of the country. It is accepted to celebrate this New Year with the family, so the government introduced two additional days off, so that people who have relatives in distant provinces could go to them.

On New Year's Eve it is common to come to Buddhist temples and give presents to monks. It can be fresh fruit, unusual dishes, and new robes.

The man who gave the present expresses his homage to the monk. In addition, visiting the temple, the Thais carry sand in their hands and pour it on the ground near the temple.
