Are Last Minute Travel Sites a Scam

I have been looking for a vacation for around March 5 to 12, and have noticed the prices going up as the date gets closer. Not just a little bit either, but substantially.An all inclusive 4 star in Veradero has went from $1009 (per person, all taxes in) last week, to close to $1500 for the same room today.I called a travel agent and they said prices are chepest about 30 days out.Are any of the "Last Minute Travel" sites actually a discount? Does anyone know of a good site for last minute, or heard of a deal for the week of Mar 5-12? Looking for Cuba or Jamaica prefered, but not against Mexico if a great deal.
