    Default The Custom of Applying Thanaka of Burmese People

    Travelling to Myanmar, you will not forget the way to take care of the beauty using natural ingredients called Thanaka.

    Thanaka or Thanakha is a cream mixture with while yellow color made from crushed bark. This is a typical custom of Myanmar people from 2000 years ago. In the country, women and girls apply thanaka on their face and hands. Sometime, men also use thanaka, but it’s not popular.

    Trees used to take bark for thanaka must be over 2 year-old trees which are grown mainly in the central area of Myanmar. In order to get high quality bark, these trees must have the age of at least 35 years. Traditional thanaka is sold as sticks. After getting it, people crush the bark into white-yellow mixture and apply on their face. Nowadays, people could buy thanaka with the form of powder or cream.

    The use of thanaka include make up, take care for skin, make facial skin cool, avoid sunlight and cure acne.
