    Yes, it is true that many of Mecca's historic buildings, most over a thousand years old, have been demolished. In the early 2000s, Mecca officials decided to redevelop the city center to make it more modern and appealing to tourists. This redevelopment included demolishing many of Mecca's iconic historical buildings, including several hundred ancient mosques and other Islamic heritage sites. While some people feel that this redevelopment was unnecessary and destructive, others argue that the new buildings align with modern trends and will bring more tourism to Mecca. In any case, the historic buildings no longer stand and have been replaced by more unique structures.
