Default Best time to travel to Vietnam

One of the first questions that comes to mind of a traveller is deciding on a time to go. There comes the time for holiday and vacation and then all of a sudden the question "Will that be the best time to visit the country" creates new nerves. In fact, even when you do the search or ask for advice on a "best time" to visit the country, chances are that not all of you can afford to plan it exactly as advised.

Let us say this to calm you: for Vietnam, any time can be a good time for travel. The opposing monsoonal season, which means different weather patterns from North to South, will give each time in the year an advantage. Plus everyone has a preference: some cannot tolerate the scorching heat, some want to be in a non-crowded area while others prefer to meet the people and feel the culture. Therefore, each month or season in Vietnam will meet one of these expectations, if not all.Simply we cannot tell you when is the best time to visit Vietnam - read this guide through and decide one for yourself.

    JANUARY - MARCH
Vietnam weather between January and March is characterized by cool and occasional light rain in the North, warm and dry in the centre and the south. Temperature in Hanoi and Halong ranges between 15 and 22, in Hue and Hoi An between 22 and 32 and in Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang between 28 and 35. If you plan to trek early in the year to rural Northern mountain, make sure you bring extra coat to keep warm. Temperature in places like Sapa can drop to near 0 point.

The period between January and March also sees the most colourful festivals taking place all over the country, including Tet festival. Certain precautions need to be taken if you travel in late January and early February to best enjoy the time (see 5 things travellers must know about visiting Vietnam during Tet). Towards March, the weather gets warmer and the intensity of festivals lessens. From mid February to mid March, tourism volume is among the lowest in the year for both international and domestic tourists.

In sum: Great weather, Abundant festivals, Uncrowded attractions.
    Recommended: Yes
Where to go: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (during Tet holiday), Sapa (January, March), Dalat (January), Nha Trang (February, March).

    APRIL - JUNE
April to June is an unpredictable time, as the season transforms from spring to summer. Most April 30th holiday (marking Vietnam Reunification of North and South) experience cool weather with occasional light rain. As it gets to June, temperature rises and so is the humidity. The Center of Vietnam remains wet with temperate weather until May, while the South and Southern coast are already in hot dry weather from March to May.

Vietnamese families often do not take off until the mid June since their kids remain in school until late May. That means you still have space to breath, if visiting popular beaches area like Nha Trang, Quy Nhon or Halong Bay.

One suggestion that we can make is that - visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City during April 30th - May 2nd, which coincide with the long holiday in Vietnam. You will find these cities empty thanks to families taking off: fewer traffic congestion, nice fresh air and perfect time to visit museums and tourist spots. Avoid off-city spots, since you will be caught in the cram and not be able to enjoy to the fullest of the trip.

    Considering Best Time Travel Vietnam

It is such a high order to answer the question: “What is the best time to travel to Vietnam?” Actually, there is not really a right or wrong time to visit Vietnam as its weather varies from one region to another due to the country’s different location lapping on variety of tropical region. For that reason, when researching weather for your intended visiting Vietnam, you should imagine the country as three separate groups of destinations, which are the North, the Center and the South of Vietnam.
    North Vietnam

Asking yourself what is the best time to visit Vietnam and the North East Vietnam including Hanoi has a distinct winter and summer season. The winter lasts from November to April the temperatures average 17 – 22 °C, you can see the most colorful festivals, especially Tet Holiday in late January and early February. In summer, the period from August to October is the ripe time for you to discover a lot of stunning mountainous destinations such as Halong Bay, Trang An – Ninh Binh and Ba Be Lake – Bac Can. Make sure to check Halong Bay cruise
If you are kind of an adrenaline junkie who loves trekking and adventure, so the period from September to November and from March to May is definitely the best time to travel to Vietnam in order to explore the marvelous and picturesque panorama of the North West mountains such as Ha Giang, Sapa, Cao Bang and Dien Bien Phu. And remember not to travel to the north-east in the wet season from May to September, because it can get very cold and humid.

    Central Vietnam

Turning to the Central Vietnam, the best time to travel to Vietnam for you is between September and December, when interesting destinations such as Hue, Hoi An and Da Nang receive considerable rain. At the far south of Central Vietnam, Nha Trang with its magically beautiful beaches benefits from a longer dry season (typically January to September), with high temperatures and little rain.

    South Vietnam

Finally, South Vietnam (including Saigon and Mekong Delta) benefits from a long dry season, so the best time to travel to Vietnam in the South is between December and May when the skies are clear, the land and scenery are incredibly lush and the waters on the Mekong Delta are very calm. The showers during monsoon season are generally short and sweet and certainly shouldn’t deter you from travelling. If you’re in Saigon during these quite spectacular showers, you’ll be wowed by how quickly the water dissipates due to very impressive drainage and then it is blue skies again.
