One of the best things to do in Bristol is to walk through the old town until you find the Cathedral, one of its most important and oldest monuments. Founded in 1140 as St Augustine's Abbey, of which the chapter house and Great Gatehouse still remain, it was not until 1542 that it became Bristol Cathedral.
This church of a very particular Gothic style has its most outstanding elements in the Lady Chapel, the arches of the sacristy of the Berkeley Chapel, the choir and the cloister.
